Di（第）is a specialized marker in the ordinal phrase＂di＋numeral/numeral string＋（X）＂.Based on a corpus analysis,this study finds that di may be missing in seven types of ordinal phrases.Of all the factors which constrain the omission of di,the semantic function and syntactic role of di,the class and change of the ordinal reference are discovered to be mandatory.The class of the numeral,the value of the numeral,the class of X,the ordinal domain,non-ordinal elements and pragmatic motives are tendentious factors which can reveal the conditions and reasons beyond the mandate of syntactic and semantic factors.
