Objective To analyze the impact of the hepatitis C virus ( HCV ) infection on the outcome of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). Methods A retrospective study was performed in infertile patients who were divided by C hepatitis infection or not. Group A was 50 cycles and 37women with C hepatitis infection, group B was 36 cycles and 30 men with C hepatitis infection and group C was 100 cycles and 78 patients without C hepatitis infection, which was as a controlling group. Results Compared with B and C group, women with C hepatitis infection had significant lower clinical pregnancy rate and implantation rate, but early aborted rate and total aborted rate remarkablly increased ( P 〈 0.05 ) in group A comparing with those in group B and group C. There were 2 off-springs infected with C hepatitis in group A. Conclusion The adverse effects on the outcome of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer(IVF-ET) should be given to patients with C hepatitis infection before treatment. C hepatitis infection in women could cause vertical transmission.
