ATP-binding cassette superfamily G member 2 (ABCG2) gene resides on chromosome band 4q22. ABCG2 is a complete-transporter in homo-dimer form and is believed to play a major role in protecting cells and human body from exogenous and endogenous toxins. The function of ABCG2 is influenced by several factors such as the structure of itself, internal environment and sex hormones. ABCG2 participates the formation of side population stem cells phenotype, and is thought to relate with the multi- drug resistance of tumors and tu- morigenesis.
