It took Japan 30 years after World War II to realize its agricultural modernization, which amazed the world with such rapid achievement under its limited natural resources. In the meantime, Japan won the respect for its agricultural man- ufacture and food safety standard. With overviewing the Japanese reflective research on the agriculture in recent years, from a new historical perspective, it has been summarized that Japanese agricultural development can be consecutively divided into traditional agriculture, modernized agriculture, and green agriculture. The introduction of Big Pollution Diseases cases caused by the industrialized pollution elucidates the Japanese experiences in agricultural development and food safety regu- lation, which provides exemplary lessons for developing nations to learn from and take fully consideration.
