Ionic liquids are a series of novel liquids solely composed of organic cations and organic or inorganic anions. The application of ionic liquid on electrodeposition will play an important role. In this paper, the ionic properties are introduced. The application of ionic liquid in electrodeposition of metal, alloy and semiconductor is summarized. The future development tendency of ionic liquid in electrodeposition is prospected.
