On the background of rapid urbanization in China, the current situation of urban spatial structure and the necessity of building knowledge cities in China are explained. According to the analysis of the existing eight types of Chinese cities, the urban transformation of the prototype space for building a knowledge city from social, geographic and economic space is proposed. And based on the evaluation index of foreign knowledge cities, the potential degree of some China＇ s ten eities, which could be transformed into knowledge cities, is evaluated. It is helpful for urban processing and developing a new path of global outlook of China＇ s urbanization.
