Endothelial microparticles(EMPs) are small membrane vesicles that shed from the surface of endothelial cells in response to activation or apoptosis.As a new marker of endothelial cell function,increased levels of EMP have been documented in several diseases.The pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy was associated with persistence of endothelial dysfunction,angiogenesis,oxidative stress,and inflammation.The activation of the renin-angiotensin system also involves EMPs.
