英文摘要：

The thousand-year tradition has brought community in China distinct social and cullural characteristics, so as the boundary of the neighborhood. This paper reviews the evolution of boundary in Chinese traditional communily and summarizes the process into five major phases. From both social governance and spatial structural perspectives, this paper explores the distinct features of Chinese neighborhood with regard to power managenlent, living rilual, community identity, and open space activities, which brings recommendations to contemporary urban conlmunily design and development.
