Dppa2 （Developmental pluripotency-associated gene 2） has been identified recently as a gene that is specially expressed in pluripotent cells and some carcinoma tissues. It is closely related to early embryonic development, involving in the maintenance of pluripoteney and self-renewal of embryonic stem cells. In addition, it is a new tumor antigen, promising to be a new target for the specific immunotherapy of some malignant tumors. In this review, we have discussed the structure and functions of DPPA2, and the relationships between DPPA2 and embryonic development, malignant tumors, as well as somatic cell reprogramming.
