The recent researches and mechanism of graphene matrix nanocomposites on water splitting, and graphene derivatives-graphite oxide in hydrogen evolution, graphene-based binary composite materials and graphene- based ternary composites in phtocatalytic water splitting, are summarized. The problems and further developments in this exciting field of graphene matrix nanocomposites are also discussed.
