The Wnt pathways play crucial roles in cardiac development. The SFRP (secreted frizzled-related protein) family, as a class of important Wnt signal regulators, has received increasing attentions for its roles in cardiac development and cardiomyocyte differentiation. Recent researches have discovered that SFRP appeared to have more complicated regulatory functions on Writ signal transduction than just being a negative regulator. In this review, we will focus on the discussions of SFRP functions and the Wnt signaling during cardiac development.
