In Qing dynasty, copper and lead were not only the main materials of coins, but also the munitions. The latter made them the most important strategic supplies concerning the whole military policies, but the military effect of minerals in Qing Dynasty used to be neglected by the academic circles. Qing Dynasty witnessed the most important transformation of military development from traditional type to the modern one. The bloom of mining industry met the demand of strategic supplies for development of military industry. One of the important reasons for Qing Dynasties to win battles is attributed to the increasing proportion of firearms. The article will take copper and lead as an example to discuss the military significance of mining industry development of Qing Dynasty.
