A resolution method for the synthesis of optical pure cis ,cis-2,2＇-spiro-biindane-1, 1＇-diol （e. e. ≥99% ） and 2,2＇-spirobiindane-1, 1＇-dione（e, e. ≥98% ） from diethylmalonate and benzyl chloride was reported. The yield was high.
