The bronze inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty were rather similar to the decorative pictures of bronze wares, in particular the characters of clan insignia, which were like pictures. So it was difficult to distinguish the characters of clan insignia from the decora- tive pictures, if they mixed together. There were main three types of decorative pictures enclosed with the inscriptions ： beast face veins, dragon veins, bird veins. And the decorative pictures which easy confused with the inscription, were eye - thunder veins, double -eyes veins, tortoise veins, cicada veins, fire veins and so on.
