Myositis ossificans traumatic （MOT） is a rare heterotopic ossification disease which rarely occurs in masticatory muscles and thus, only 28 cases have been reported in the English literature since 2001. We presented an unusual long-term case of MOT occurring in the temporalis muscle. The treatment protocol involved a radical resection and bilateral coronoidectomy. This is the first report to use digital medical techniques to aid in surgical treatment of MOT. The hypotheses of pathogenesis and different surgical methods were also discussed.
