The taxol 13-C side chain was synthesized by asymmetric aminohydroxylation or dihydroxy- lation of trans-cinnamate using recoverable and resued chiral ligand [ QN (OH)2 ] 2PHAL as the catalyst. The structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, IR and elemental analysis. The yields were 39% with 97%ee and 52% with 99%ee, respectively by two methods.
