Thiocarbamate was synthesized by the reaction diethylamine with carbon disulfide and acetone. The thiocarbamate reacted with N-Boc-ethylenediamine to yield a chain transfer agent used to mediate reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) free radical polymerization. Then polymer 3 was prepared by RAFT polymerization of N-vinylcaprolactam (NVCL), which was mediated by the synthesized chain transfer agent. Finally, mercapto-terminated poly (N-vinylcaprolaetam) was synthesized by ammonolysis of polymer 3. The structures of the products were verified by 1H NMR and IR spectra.
