Poor aeration results in physiological hypoxia of plants that normally grow and hypoxia stress is one of abiotic stress factors that plants suffer. The paper summarizes the effects of hypoxia stress on plant growth and morphology as well as water content, nutrient uptake, respiration metabolism, hormone metabolism and oxidation system in plants;in addition,it sum up signal transmission,gene expression and protein synthesis, and discusses the latest research advances about hypoxia-stress damage and hypoxia stress-adapting mechanism in plants in different respects.
