Archival mediator is a new kind of institution in archival field in China. The article explains why the so-called archival mediators should not be defined as real mediators. There are two reasons. The first is that the typical definitions of archival mediators are inaccurate because they do not interpret intermediary nature of those institutions. The second is that the practical functions of archival mediators are not belonging to intermediary services. So, archival mediator should be given the right name of archival service institution.
