A peer-to-peer based execution engine to improve the availability and reliability of geospatial information (GI) services composition is proposed. A service community concept and a QoS model of GI services are proposed to discover the best quality GI service engines in the peer-to-peer network. The engines coordinate other participants in charge of initiating, controlling, monitoring the associated GI services execution, and adopt an alternative approach for failure recovery. Compared with centralized ones, this model has several benefits, such as avoiding a single point of failure and improving the system performance.
