The concentrations of the dissolved heavy metals Ni, Cu, Hg, Zn, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cd, Pb, Co in the Xisha waters were determined by means of the atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and the atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS). The results indicate that the other concentrations of the heavy metals are ranged in the first-rate classification of the National Seawater Standards except for Pb and Ni, and the seawater quality in this area appears in the nearshore behavior. The correlations among the heavy metals were discussed using the multi-elemental statistics. The factor analysis reveals that the distribution of the heavy metal concentrations is controlled by the salinity, atmospheric precipitation, upwelling and natural geochemistry.
