Species diversities of five typical stands in Wuxiangsi National Forest Park of Nanjing City under four different thinning intensities were studied during the first year after thinning. The analysis of variance was applied to analyze the change in species diversities between different stand types and between different thinning intensities. Results indicate that there is not difference in species diversity between different stand types. Judged from the short-term effects,the species diversity of the stands could be improved significantly by thinning. The average height and Pielou index of undergrowth layer did not exhibit significant differences between different thinning intensities. Margalef index is most sensitive to the change in species diversity of the experimental plots,and then followed by Shannon-Wiener index and Simpson index in order.
