Lamotrigine as a mood stabilizer for the treatment of bipolar disorder has been used in clinical. The treatment programs of lamotrigine monotherapy or in combination with other drugs were added into the latest CANMAT guide in 2013, which indicated that the application of lamotrigine in the treatment of bipolar disorder is widely concerned. This review describes the clinical study, safety and the application prospect of lamotrigine in the treatment of some kinds of bipolar disorder subtypes so as to provide novel perspectives and new ideas for the treatment of bipolar disorder.
