The paper, using Chinese city-level data, makes an empirical study on the relationship between investment com- petition of local governments, FDI inten＇egional flow and residents＇ economic welfare. The resuhs show that FDI flow, based on investment competition of local governments, significantly affects the changes in the level of economic welfare and pres- ents obvious regional differences, whether the whole sample test or the regional sample test. In coastal regions, FD1 and gov- eminent＇ s preferential policies for foreign companies promote the level residents＇ economic welfare, and they show a syner- gistic effect. In inland regions, their effect on the improvement of residents＇ economic welfare is not obvious, and they may have a negative effect on it even in individual regions.
