Caveolin is the distinctive structural protein of caveolae. It plays an important role in life activities such as endocytosis, cholesterol transport, cell membrane package, regulation of signal transduction, oncogenesis, and tumor metastasis. Caveolin-1 （ Cav-1 ） gene, which is a member of caveolin gene family, may play an important role in the pathogenesis of tumorigenesis and metastasis and be related with the classic multidrug resistance. Cav-1 has a quite diverse functional roles, ranging from regulation in cell cycle and signal transduction, and important implications for the cell apoptosis and antiangiogenesis, to negative regulation in growth factors, and plays a role in tumor invasion and metastasis.
