本文就地图挖掘的基本理论于方法进行了初步的探讨，重点研究了地图信息挖掘的意义，地图信息挖掘的定义、地图信息挖掘的信息和地图信息挖掘的方法，并用实例说明了地图信息挖掘所能得到的知识，以及地图信息挖掘技术的应用方面的问题。最后就地图挖掘存在的问题进行了总结，并指出地图信息挖掘还处于初步阶段还需大力进行研究。
英文摘要：
With the increasingly extensive application of the map as well as more and more map variety and quantity, it is very necessary and meaningful to process map information mining. We know that the expressive inforination of a map is composed of two parts that are the direct and indirect information. Information is directly expressed by the map graphic symbols, people can easily get it through reading cartography; indirect information is obtained by analyzing and interpreting cartography, which often requires thinking activity, such as analyzing and integrating. The paper preliminarily discusses the basic theory and method of map information mining, including the significance, the definition, and the method. With practical example, the knowledge and the application of map information mining are illuminated. Finally, it stuns up the problems concerning with map information mining, and points out that map information mining is at the initial phases and need to be studied further.
