Objective To explore the impacts of high temperature on death caused by cerebro-cardiovascular diseases in Wuhan. Methods The time series of maximum daily temperature and daily death number of cerebro-cardiovascular diseases were described, the average daily death in continuous high temperature periods was compared with that in non-continuous high temperature periods, and the relationship between daily maximum temperature and daily mortality of cerebro-cardiovascular diseases in summer was analyzed in 2003. Results There was a death peak during the continuous high temperature periods in summer, 2003. The average cerebro-cardiovascular death number of male, female and both in continuous high temperature periods was as high as 1.56, 2.34 and 1.92 times of that in non-continuous high temperature periods respectively, and the deaths in continuous high temperature periods accounted for 31.8% of the total cerebro-cardiovascular deaths in the whole summer. The temperature above which the daily cerebro-cardiovascular mortality obviously increased with the temperature increasing was 36 ℃ in Wuhan, and the unit temperature risk of mortality was 2.8 per million. Conclusion The extreme high temperature may obviously increase the cerebro-cardiovascular death in Wuhan.
