Zhang Huiyan made the hand -written notes on Shan Zhong Bai Yun Ci after the publishing of Ci Xuan. These notes can be categorized into three types ： chronological notes, notes to judge the artistic value and notes to explain the meanings. These notes are consistent with the critical methodologies of Ci Xuan. The existence of the book with hand - written notes can better prove Dong Shixi＇ s high praise for Zhang Yan when commenting on the Ci Poetry, as well as Dong Yi＇ s preference for Zhang Yan in Xu Ci Xuan.
