Medeleev was the initiator who first put forward inorganic cause theory of petroleum, but for a long time, people seldom understood his theory. This paper systematically introduced the content, developing process of his inorganic cause theory about petroleum, as well as the comments on his theory in Russian petroleum and geology world. It was also pointed out that this theorywould take the significant role in the future exploration and development of petroleum.
