The floating cup principle is a new axial piston concept,combining the advantages from the slipper-type and bent-axis principle.Most striking is the mirrored design of the new concept.Besides,the pistons are rigidly connected to the rotor and each piston has its own separate cuplike cylinder.These ‘cups' are floating on and supported by a barrel plate.A floating cup pump has such advantages as a compact structure,low-weight,small leakage,force balance,small torque loss and fluctuation,low noise,high efficiency and low production cost.The floating cup principle is widely applied in hydraulic constant and variable displacement pump,hydraulic motor and hydraulic transformer,etc.This paper focuses on the detailed analysis of floating cup pump,including the present research and development,structure characteristics and advantages.It also describes the application of floating cup principle in constant and variable pump,hydraulic motor,hydraulic transformer.This paper will provide the reference for the further development of floating cup pump and more application of the floating cup principle.
