Objective: To research the effect of sulfamonomethoxine (SMM) exposure during lactation period oil growth, develop- ment and related hormones of neonatal mice. Methods: After delivery, 24 female mice were divided into control group, low - dose SMM group (0 mg/kg), middle -dose SMM group (10 mg/kg) and high- dose SMM group (200 mg/kg) ; the neonatal mice were treated with intragastric administration of SMM from the first day to the 21st day after birth, body weights of the neonatal mice were obtained on the first day, the seventh day, the fourteenth day and the 21st day; the neonatal mice were sacrificed on the 22nd day to obtain serum specimens, ra- dioimmunoassay was used to detect triiodothyronine, thyroxine, insulin and growth hormone; ELISA was used to detect insulin like growth factor 1 ( IGF- 1 ) . Results: There was no statistically significant difference in body weight of the neonatal mice on the the first day, the seventh day, the fourteenth day and the 21st day among low - dose SMM group, middle - dose SMM group and high - dose SMM group ( P 〉 0. 05 ) ; the percentage of weight gain on the third week in high - dose SMM group was (61.5 ± 6. 4) %, which was statistically significantly lower than that in control group ( P 〈 0.05 ) ; the level of insulin in high - dose SMM group was ( 32. 84 ± 8.28 ) μIU/ml, which was sta- tistieally significantly higher than that in control group ( P 〈 0. 05 ) ; there was no statistically significant difference in the levels of triiodothry- onine, thyroxine, growth hormone and IGF- 1 among low- dose SMM group, middle -dose SMM group and high- dose SMM group (P 〉 0. 05 ) . Conclusion: SMM exposure during lactation period has impact on early growth and development of the neonatal mice.
