The Sound and the Fury is American writer William Faulkner’s representative novel. By using the theory of Freud’s psychoanalysis, the paper analyzes Benjy’s “Oedipus Complex”, and finds out that in this novel the object of Benjy’s “Oedipus Complex” does not center on his biological mother Mrs. Compson but on his elder sister Caddy. This will provide a new interpretation approach in the illustration of the complex spiritual world of the characters, and deepen the understanding of Benjy and the novel’s motif.
