在介绍湖南省3次土壤普查的基础上，详述了湖南省现行土壤分类系统的土纲、土类、亚类、土属、土种、亚种6个分类单元，综述了1965年至今的湖南土壤发生分类和系统分类的探索性研究概况，指出了湖南现行土壤分类体系中存在有待定量化、标准化和国际化等问题，由此展望了开展湖南土系调查与土壤基层分类研究的广阔前景。

Based on introducing the 3rd general soil survey in Hunan province, the six classification units of soil taxonomy in Hunan province were expatiated, including Soil Order, Soil Great Group, Subgroup, Soil Family, Soil Species and Subspecies. Moreover, the general research situations of soil genetic classification and systematic classification in Hunan province from 1965 to now were summarized. The results indicated that same as the other provinces and cities in China, the presented soil taxonomy in Hunan province has some problems, such as lacking of quantification, standardization and internationalization, thus prospecting the broad future for investigation of soil taxonomy and research of basic categories of soil classification in Hunan province.
