A finite volume scheme is presented for the initial-boundary-value problem of purely longtudinal motion equation of a homogeneous bar. The error analysis of the solution of the finite volume scheme is given, and the optimal order error estimates in L^2 and H^1, superconvergence error estimates in H^1 are obtained. Finally, a numerical example is given.
