Since 1980s, the birth rate of Xi＇an reduced year by year, and the population transition mode developed to a low steady stage. Grey correlation analysis was used to study the relevancy between population system and economic system in Xi＇an City from 1985 to 2012 .The following conclusions were drawn from the study：Firstly, the coupling relationship between population and economic system of Xi＇an City was closely, and influ- enced each other. Secondly, the rate of population growth on the economic development impact was gradually weakening, urban population and second and third industry employed population was becoming the major factors. Finally, the employment structure in Xi＇an City laged behind the industrial structure, the second and third industry employment population needed to be strengthened, the proportion of the primary industry population was too high, and labor surplus became a problem.
