The post - stroke depression is a common complication of cerebrovascular disease. Brain damage, stagnation of qi, disorder of viscera,accompanied with pathological factors such as phlegm and blood stasis form the basic pathogenesis of PSD. The application of acupuncture and moxibustion through stimulating certain acupoints on the human body are not only character- ized by the functions of inspiring spirits, activating the meridians and collaterals and restoring consciousness, but also promoting the circulation of qi and invigorating the blood, dispersing liver stagnation and regulating function of the internal organs so as to treat post -stroke depression. The selection of acupoints has a general trend to place emphasis on the disease location, deficiency and excess, branch and root of the post - stroke depression.
