User-centric mobility management will be a challenge in future mobile internet with the rapid development of smart phones and various applications. This paper analyzes mobility management in respect of its procedure, functions and different realization methods. Based on the general functions of mobility management, it studies the demands and features of distributed mobility management, introduces the SDN-based mobility management architecture, and discusses some future research directions.
