Mg-Al hydrotalcite is a kind of layered double compounds with wide application. In recent years, most of them have been applied as absorbent or catalyst, and widely used in the field of environmental pollution control because of their specific constitution. The synthesis of Mg-Al hydrotaleite are described, including coprecipitation method, hydrothermal synthesis method, ion-exchange method and calcine-recovering method. The application of Mg- Al hydrotalcite in water pollution control, air pollution control, technology of plastics, flame retardant industry and other aspects are discussed.
