A new method is introduced for single photon detection synchronously based on photo-electric switches. The method can suppress background photon noise, and avoid the afterpulses and dead time effect in single photon detection caused by background photons effectively. In this way, the signal to noise ratio is improved in single photon detection. Furthermore, the method can avoid the single photon-detector's electroluminescence effect when it works commonly under the gated-mode for single photon detection synchronously.
