This article takes the updating design of Tuohuangniu Road in Anda as an example, studies the design method to update the modem historical blocks in small and medium-sized cities. Then the article points out the overall thinking, protection objective, the operation mode of the historical block protection and renewal engineering. Lastly, the article points out the best combination of the historical blocks and ur- ban individuality is the key to achieve the renewal of the old city.
