Obesity is one of the main dangerous factors that affect people' s health. The recognition of obesity in Chinese medicine was recorded as early as the days of "Huangdi Neijing". "Huangdi Neijing" recorded that the cause of obesity was related to the dietary habits, functions of zangfu organs and people' s constitutions. The pathogenesis of obesity was related to the condition of qi, blood, phlegm turbidity and blood stasis. The types of obesity were mainly "zhiren", "gaoren" and "rouren'. The fatty was susceptible to stroke, so the drugs administrated to them would be strong in the property and flavour, and acupuncture would be deeper and longer in acupoints. "Huangdi Neijing" also pointed out initially the psychological characteristics of the fatty. All above-mentioned recognitions have laid a solid theoretical function for the later study of obesity.
