Aiming at the structure, calculation method and the outstanding problems of the landmark model, based on the analysis of a large number of domestic and international literatures, this paper re- viewed the research progresses in extracting landmarks based on salience model. Problems of existing methods were summarized and analyzed. The calculation methods of the perceptual salience, the cognitive salience and the context salience which compose the landmark salience were studied deeply, and solution to solve the problem was put forward.
