For the issue of non-uniformly spaced sparse array synthesis, a novel method based on iterative re- weighted lq (0 〈 q 〈 1 ) norm minimization for sparse array synthesis is proposed. According to the sparse physical characteristics of the elements in the sparse array, the problem of sparse array synthesis is transformed into the sparse reconstruction problem based on a series of weighted lq norm minimization. In the optimization procedure, a closed-form solution of the array weighting vector is obtained for next iteration. The optimal excitation coefficients and sensor positions of the sparse array is then obtained by selecting those nonzero elements in the estimated array weighting vector when the iteration termination condition is met. Numerical experiments have proved that the proposed method can reduce more sensors in a sparse antenna array by using less iterations than the reweighted l1 norm minimization method to meet the desired radiation pattern.
