The chemical composition and key properties of aluminum carbon silicide material were briefly introduced and the synthesis methods of Al4SiC4 ceramics such as solid-state reaction, self propagating high temperature synthesis, etc. were discussed with emphasis. The basic properties, oxidation resistance and hy- dration resistance of Al4SiC4 were discussed along with the properties comparison between Al4SiC4 and other materials; the application of Al4SiC4 was introduced. Finally, the synthesis method and properties of the Al4SiC4 material were summarized with the research direction pointed out.
