Design of industrial network protocols is an important job of networked control systems. The small net-induced delay is to the good for the plant stability and algorithm design. In the model of industrial Ethernet communication protocols (IECP), industrial communication protocols are usually in the transmission lay or application lay. With communication models, datagram and IECP programming, the design method of IECP was presented. The performance evaluation methods of industrial networks were also expressed, in which the real-time property is the most important one. The experiments of the network response time based on different lays were shown, whose results confirmed that IECP has different properties based on different lays. And it also confirmed the feasibility and validity of IECP with different lays.
