Originality and authenticity are two important and controversial concepts in the academia and practice of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) safeguarding. This paper tries to trace the concepts history and set an epistemological framework to demonstrate the sisterhood of them, replacing the atomism, essentialism and dogmatism with theories of relationship, process and dialogue. It also aims to clarify the real function and significance of this pair of concepts in the ICH safeguarding and to realize their theoretical value.
