Taking the Lanzhou metropolitan areas plan as an example,this has carried on the thorough analysis to the metropolitan area scope division and the spatial organization question. First,it has analyzed the base of metropolitan area division and the scope of Lanzhou metropolitan area＇s planning,Then,the paper analyzed the Lanzhou metropolitan area unique feature and the Lanzhou metropolitan area basic scope （ standard metropolitan areas）,discussed the important principle method which the standard of metropolitan area scope divides,also explained that the total scope of the metropolitan area plans take compared to the scope of the standard metropolitan area, probes into the way positively in solving the scope contradictory of the metropolitan area plan and the management statistics.
