Y-box binding protein-1 ( YB-1 ) is a member of the cold shock protein family. YB-1 contains three structure domains, namely the N-terminal domain, the hydrophilic C-terminal domain and the conserved cold shock domain(CSD) ,which is involved in the interaction of YB-1 with DNA and RNA,transcriptiorial and translational regulation of various genes. YB-1 is involved in oncogenic cell transformation, multiple drug resistance, and dissemination of tumor. YB-1 has both the oncogenic and antioncogenic function, and can be used as an important indicator for tumor diagnosis and a molecular target for tumor treatment. In short,YB-1 plays an important role in the growth of not only tumor ceils but also tumor-associated vascular endothelial cells. Here is to make a review of the function of YB-1 and its oncogenic and antioncogenic roles in the tumorigenesis.
