Ant species and their distribution pattern in Gongbo Nature Reserve are investigated by the search-collecting method. 17 species belonging to 2 subfamilies and 8 genera are recorded in the nature reserve: 10 species and 5 genera belong to Myrmicinae, 7 species and 3 genera belong to Formicinae, including 6 new record species for Tibet, 1 new record species for China, and 5 species awaiting final identification. The ant species of the nature reserve belong to, but are not completely similar to the typical Palaearctic fauna, which have a southern alpine faunal character. Conggo town is the richest in species number among the 9 sites. Grassland is the richest in species number among the 10 vegetation types. Among the 8 habitats, most species nest under stone. Habitat selection of the alpine ant species is somewhat different from that of low altitude Palaearctic ones, where obtaining solar energy seems more essential for their livelihoods.
