A metallothionein gene was cloned from Oryza meyeriana cDNA library constructed by SMART^TM technology. The eDNA was 412 bp and had an open reading frame（ORF） of 186 bp,which contained a dedueed amino acid sequence of 62 residues, 10 eysteines of the amino acid sequence distributed at protein N terminal and C terminal. The protein molecular weight is 6.4 kD and its isoelectric point is 5.14. The result of Blastp revealed that the gene is a member of metallothinein gene family.
